Membership Meeting May 16, 2023
The meeting was held at Ruvo's to celebrate their winning the best appetizer at our Winter Golf Classic. The meeting was very well attended with nineteen of our members.
Jennifer shared with us that well over $25 thousand was raised at the Gift of Life dinner. This week there will be a service day at the Timothy Hill Children's Ranch in Riverhead from 9-12. The Northwell Mather walk will be on Sunday the 21st. Walkers pay $25 for registration. Nancy Uzo encouraged us to donate to a walker and/or volunteer at the event. The Rotary Golf Championship will be held at St. George Country Club on June 19th. It will be a shot gun start. A ticket for dinner only can be purchased. Dinner is at 6pm. There will be a food drive on June 4th from 9-12. The drive is held behind Infant Jesus R.C. Church at the convent. Brian implored us to share it on social media.
The visit by the Italian Rotarians went very well. They visited Brookhaven National Laboratory and the Tesla Museum. They attended a night of jazz at the Jazz Loft in Stony Brook. On Sunday May 7th, there was a bar-b-que at Shoreham Country Club. There was an exchange of flags. A special thanks goes out to Pat and Sally Sabo for hosting. Our thanks to Nancy Uzo, Rebecca Kassey, and Debbie Englehardt for driving the guests.
Pat Sabo reported that a bench at Chandler Park has been donated. Nancy Uzo reported that dues are due and to please support her as a walker for the Northwell Mather Walk for Hope. Rebecca Kassey told us that the Community Garden will be having a gathering of gardeners at 101 Beach St. at 6:30pm. Jennifer Dzvonar reminded us that tickets for the raffle will be printed soon. The Ward Melville Heritage Organization will be honoring Judi Betts posthumously on June 22nd. The Parish Outreach will be holding the Autumn Splendor on Friday Oct 27th. Our club usually buys enough tickets to fill a table.
We were joined at our meeting by Meg Ryan, Brian Walker, Adyson Nocito, Andrea Nocito, and Robert Nocito. Ms. Ryan nominated Adyson for the Most Motivated Student for Port Jefferson. It was agreed that Adyson would be an excellent future Rotarian.
The Sergent's report raised some money. How many students are part of Rotary Interactive? Over 5000 in 80 countries Rotary youth still do Zoom. Who was one of the NBA's rookies in 1975? Michael Jordan Who climbed Mt. Everest on this date? Junko Toba Who had a birthday on May 16th? Joan of Arc and Pope Benedict XX. When and where is the Rotary International Convention this year? Melbourne, Australia May 27th-31st.
Mark Snyder gave the full donation to have us not assault him with our mellifluous rendition of Happy Birthday. Kevin was grateful for surviving babysitting four grandchildren. Sal was happy that the Mets won. Nancy was grateful for the groundbreaking for the new building at Northwell Mather Hospital. The award for the best appetizers was then given to Chef Gregory Cioffero of Ruvo's.
