News of the Meeting of April 6th

Rob hosted today's ALL-ZOOM meeting with 15 members attending in addition to Mike Mosca, Comsewogue HS Principal, and this month's Most Motivated Student, 9th grader Isabella Devargas.

The Golf Committee Zoom Meeting will take place this afternoon at 5 PM via Zoom.  Contact Rob quickly so that he can provide you with the link in order to attend.

Everyone agreed that last Wednesday's Virtual Bingo Night Fundraiser was a huge success and loads of fun, thanks to the efforts especially of Kim, Sal, and Rebecca, as well as the patronage of many of our members and their families. BRAVO! and THANK YOU to all who were involved in setting up this event.  We all look forward eagerly to more such Bingo Nights in the future.  Kim announced that Theater Three sent a big Thank You, especially as they benefited from 1/2 of the profits.

Pat and Al will welcome all volunteers to the Wood Chipping Clean-up at the Chandler Estate this Sunday, April 11th, rain or shine, beginning at 8 AM.  Park at the Mt. Sinai Congregational Church Parking Lot.  Al expects to have the wood chipper there early.  Pat reminds us to bring heavy gloves, eye & ear protection, tic spray, and beverages.  Lunch foods may be provided.  Pat has been cutting vines and clearing paths all winter.

Cindy reminded us of the dates for the RYLA Facilitator Meetings:  April 9th & 10th, and the two weekend Rotary Youth Leadership Training events, April 16th-18th, and April 23rd to 25th.  (Rebecca looks forward to being a guest speaker at the latter meetings on April 17th and April 24th !) Cindy is looking for someone to cover her on the 2nd weekend and will see if she can work something out with Rebecca & Sal.  T-Shirts will be given out on the Friday of each session- different colors for the 3 different teams. (Rebecca offered to supply a T-Shirt launcher, but since there are color-coded teams, this would not work well.)  Cindy hopes that in the future Kim & Sal will be able to help RYLA by setting up a Bingo fundraiser for them.

Bob H. announced that $12,934.47 is the total of a year's donations by our members to The Open Cupboard.

You are hereby invited to participate in the 23rd Annual Middle Island- Rocky Point Rotary Golf Tournament to be held on Sunday, June 21st at St. George's Golf & Country Club in East Setauket.  Look for the complete info below under News & Announcements.

Jen introduced Comsewogue High School's  Principal, Mike Mosca, who had invited this month's Most Motivated Student to his office so that we could honor her with our award.  Isabella Devargas is a 9th grader and an incredible student, who is maintaining averages in the high 90s in ALL of her classes.  Her nominating teacher said, "In the middle of a crazy, unique, challenging year, Isabella has managed to not only keep up with school work, but she exceeds all expectations. She approaches any challenge headfirst, and has been very successful in facing these challenges this year.  It is a pleasure having her in class, and she is a model student!"  Mosca continued the praise of this student by referring to her as the epitome of a Most Motivated Student.  Isabella hopes to become a social worker or psychologist, because she very much wants to help others. Yay, Isabella!  Rob delivered an impressive congratulatory message to this student on our behalf.
*********************** Happy National Library Week!********************************************
Deb, Sal, and Kim remind you to visit your local library to vote today.
Archana was prepared to be today's Sergeant, but gremlins kept her computer from working properly and unmuting, so, instead, a variety of our members offered to pay Fines and Happy and Sad Dollars, anyway, with Rob keeping track of it all. :)
