Rob introduced again Peter Montaglione, our speaker, who works with an internationally-known organization of coaches, collaborators, trainers, and transformational leaders. He currently speaks mainly to civic groups and small organizations about leadership. Peter's objective is to train leaders to train leadership - of self and of others. To succeed, organizing talent is necessary. Peter quoted a number of Master Leaders, including John Maxwell, when discussing how to be a leader and bring about as well as strengthen leadership from others. Maxwell teaches that there are 3 laws of leadership: leadership of the lid; the law of influence; and the law of process. The law of the lid actually refers to the law of one's potential effectiveness. You must raise your lid in order to gain leadership skill. The law of influence is a reference to the fact that leadership is influence. One has to influence someone/others in order to achieve their and your goals. The law of process refers to how to influence others, help oneself grow to influence others, and how to gain insight via one's experience and life lessons. Leadership is a learnable skill. One can learn to grow by getting out of one's relaxed comfort zone. We gain influence by serving others. Peter reiterated that leadership is influence. You get what you want if you help others to get what they want. Leadership is inspiration. The more effective you want to be, the more influence you have to have. To gain influence, people ask: Do you care for me? Can you help me? Can I trust you? Through personal development, one can become a better, greater leader. Leadership is a day by day operation. One must constantly seek to gain skills and knowledge. Peter offers to help businesses grow by strengthening leadership potential. He coaches small businesses and helps run them as well. Today's Sergeant, Mike Sceiford, filled the dollar plate by quizzing members about the fall equinox, which begins tomorrow, and other calendar stuff as well as football game results. He also collected Happy & Sad Dollars, donated for a variety of good reasons. We all congratulated Jen on Will's, Willy's, and Daphne's superior national BMX championship wins this past weekend. Yay, team! Here's to a healthy, happy, productive week! See ya next Tuesday evening! :) |
