News of the Meeting of June 9th

Today we met again via Zoom at 5:30 PM, with Paul hosting.
Thirteen of our members were able to attend this virtual meeting, as well as two guests/perspective club members, who were again invited by Judi: Dawn Friedland-Perez, owner of "Wisdom of the Aged", a provider of relief for all types of caregivers, and Robert (Rob) Marder, a physical therapist who works especially with seniors.
Our third guest was Lauren Adamkiewicz, Founder/Owner of Salt of the Earth Yoga.  Lauren, who lives and works in Brookhaven hamlet but is a proud Comsewogue HS & Drama Club graduate, provided a refreshing, easy-to-follow 15 minute demonstration of "chair yoga".  This set of exercises is geared for people who sit a lot- at work, home, and in a variety of vehicles including airplanes. We began to follow Lauren's example by practicing breathing exercises with her, followed by other exercises meant to flex and strengthen our muscles, increase balance, and gain flexibility without causing much strain,- mostly while seated.  Following our brief,   "workout", Lauren invited us to visit her online for further exercises: saltoftheearthyoga.com
Our fourth guest, Arielle Vigliante, made a welcome cameo appearance at the end of our meeting.
NEWS & INFORMATION HIGHLIGHTS:  Bob, who attended our meeting (with Ami) from Charleston, reported that our members continue to generously donate towards baskets of food for needy families and to send checks to buy super market gift cards for clients of The Open Cupboard.  We have raised over $2,015 in checks and direct donations, so far.  A special "thank you" was expressed to Al's family, which has been particularly generous with a recent large donation.  All contributions are always welcome.  Contact Bob for more info. Please note the new Open Cupboard Food Needs List on this site. (Thanks, Dennis, for procuring the list!) ***Bill and Jen announced that the *RAFFLE TICKETS* are ready for imminent distribution.  Jen will try to call all of our members to arrange for delivery of their bundle (25 tickets per person to be sold- more tickets available, as needed) to each club member by all possible means (mail, house drop, etc.) Central pick-up/drop off locations (ie., Chamber of Commerce offices) will be set up.   Time to get into tickets-selling mode, folks!  Our community depends on YOUR success! Sharon and her committee are still at work planning for our fall Past Presidents' Dinner & Raffle Drawing. Al offered his property for a BBQ event. Plans will continue to move forward. Dennis reminded us that our club habitually donates $1,000 to Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck at this time of year and will seek a check for the camp.  Remember to check out our Events Calendar for upcoming Rotary activities open to all members.
**If you have ideas or items to be discussed at our next meeting, let Paul know.**                                   *** Watch for Paul's announcement of our next virtual meeting via Zoom and plan to join us!***
                                          MEANWHILE, STAY SAFE!

Quote of the Week

"Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused."

Thought for the week:

Don't you wish some people would use a glue stick instead of lip balm?
