Today, we welcomed as our guest speaker Roslyn Goldmacher, President & CEO of the Long Island Development Corporation, which provides paths to small business loans and technical assistance for small businesses and not-for-profit entities. The LIDC helps such agencies grow and expand. She was accompanied by co-worker Phyllis Hill Slater. Ms. Goldmacher handed out listings of "value added resources" that can help with business financing (including a large variety of loan options and sources), technical assistance programs (offering free advice and services), and special grants and technical assistance for 501c3's. The LIDC, a regional not-for-profit development organization, has made over $1 billion in direct loans to entrepreneurs and helped them obtain $1.7 billion in government contracts. Its programs provide not only low cost working capital to targeted industries and micro loans to small businesses, but also provides free seminars to help entrepreneurs succeed. LIDC can connect small LI businesses with the US Economic Development Administration's NY State Targeted Loan Fund, LISBAC (LI Small Business Assistance Corporation), which is looking for people to lend to. Businesses that are losing sales and employees to foreign competition can find opportunities to fund improvement projects by attending the free TAAC (Trade Adjustment Assistance Center) Manufacturing Workshop on 9/29 at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, 7:45-10AM, which includes breakfast. On October 7th, Ms. Goldmacher will host an workshop dealing with the positive sides of "inclusion hiring" (of employees with disabilities). This is one of many informative, free LIDC-sponsored workshops and panel discussions open to entrepreneurs to help them learn and grow. ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERS: There's now $313 in the pot waiting to be won. YOU could still win it. Next opportunity: our 9/13 luncheon at Cafe Spiga. ***This will also be an OPEN CUPBOARD COLLECTION DAY. Our visiting speaker will be Malinda Boyd, Music Professor at SUSB.***Our Habitat Build will take place on Friday, September 9th. The cost is $50 per member (the club pays another $50). Non-members - family, friends, etc.- are also welcome to join us (but will pay $100 for the experience). Please let Deb know if you are interested in taking part in this activity.*** Our next Stuff-A-Van Event will take place on Saturday, 9/10, at the King Kullen in Mt.Sinai. Volunteers are still welcome. The Exec. Board will meet at 7:30AM on 9/12 at Archana's bank.Susan reports that so far only 466 raffle tickets have been turned in to date. Have you sold all of your RAFFLE TICKETS yet? If not, please do so IN A TIMELY FASHION. We have only 2 weeks and a few days left to obtain the needed $$$$ to fund our favorite projects for this year. Remember: the money earned via the ticket sales not only helps us help our community but also enables our club to pay 1/2 the cost for members to participate in many of our favorite activities (ie., The Habitat Build).The Raffle Drawing is 9/22, so the time to sell the rest of your tickets is NOW! The Comsewogue Public Library will host its 5th Annual Volunteer Fair on September 20th from 4-6PM. Please sign up with Archana or Debbie if you can help out. Plan to meet DG MJ when she visits US on 9/27. This will be a joint meeting also attended by the Stony Brook, Rocky Point, and Middle Island clubs, as well. You are invited to attend the Town of Brookhaven's 10th Annual Women's Conference & Expo on Oct.1st, 8:00 AM-3:00 PM, at Town Hall. The theme: "Inspire, Educate, Motivate". Speakers include the founder & CEO of MAXX New York, TV personality Cherie Christmas; Tina Annibell, a whole foods chef & master gardiner, who will present a workshop, "Eating Healthy on the Go"; and Cory Muscara, whose workshop deals with "Mindfulness- Shifting from Surviving to Thriving". Advanced registration is required- $20 for Town residents, with breakfast & lunch included. Mail checks to Brookhaven Women's Services, 1 Independence Hill, Farmingville 11738. Here's an invitation to to attend the District Conference in Long Beach, NJ October 13th-16th. The next Rotary Leadership Institute will be held in Melville on 10/22. Debbie invites you to join her in this very educational endeavor. Please note this tentative date for our annual Fall Cleanup at Camp Pra-Qua-Tuck: November 13th- 9AM to 12:30PM. We ask you to keep the Kopcienskis in your thoughts and prayers. Honor is now in Hospice Care.
