News of the Meeting of October 12th

Today was Open Cupboard Collection Day!  Thank you, generous donors!

Michael Burghardt, President-Elect, ran today's meeting at Cafe Spiga in President Rob's absence.  He reported the following information shared at the meeting:

* Comsewogue schools canceled for today, so there was no presentation for this month's Most Motivated Student.  They will reschedule for an upcoming meeting.

* Pat Sabo noted that the 3 benches ordered for Chandler Estate Park are expected to arrive today.  Pat would like to request approval from the Donations Committee to purchase 250 feet of erosion fencing, totaling $600.  This is needed for the park to prevent erosion of the shoreline.  Once the fencing is installed, it can be backfilled.  This would be another great improvement for the park!

* Dennis read the letter he recently e-mailed to all Rotarians from Luke Blanton, a 2nd year camper at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck.  Luke gave this speech at a recent camp fundraiser.  His message puts into words the feelings many Pa-Qua-Tuck campers would also want to express about the camp.  Our Rotarians discussed raising the $1,000 that the club donates to the camp each year.  The request for a raise will be referred to the Donations Committee.  Bob H. mentioned that the camp has been used more often for weddings this year, as many weddings were delayed due to the pandemic, and people are now looking for new locations for their wedding receptions.  Dennis also informed our members that Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck will be resuming The Spooky Walk again this year. The dates for that event are October 15th, 16th, 22nd, and 23rd.  This is the camp's largest annual fundraiser.

* Mary Ellen ("Mel") Ellwood, District Governor, will attend our luncheon at Cafe Spiga next week.  Please make every effort to attend, as well!

* Have you seen our new "Harbor Light"? Kim designed and distributed copies to members present!  It's beautiful, colorful, and informative.  Thank you, Kim, for reviving "Harbor Light" and making it so stylish!
She invites members to send her info regarding upcoming events/news (or corrections) to be published in subsequent issues.  Contact her at kzettwoch@portjefflibrary.org .

Here's to a healthy, happy week- and make it a productive one!  See ya next Tuesday! :)

He will be walking the distance. Medals will be awarded to all finishers.
