A winter trip to a warm, tropic isle?....Sharon noted that she'll be working with the team she had last year on planning for this year's Past Presidents' Dinner. Although she has had a tentative date in September and a venue in mind, she stated that, being realistic, since we don't know what the public health situation will be in September, her committee will continue to check out local restaurants as options and will welcome suggestions (ie., the Old Field Club) for now. It is quite possible that this year's annual celebration will follow a new path altogether. Rebecca reminded us that she is helping run a food drive and is also distributing large numbers of masks and other protective gear to people in need. Her "LI Open Source Medical Supply", part of a multi-Rotary club connection, provides masks and plastic shields to all essential workers (ie.,cashiers and others who interface with the public.)Contact her for more information and to help out. Dennis voiced his concern about the ongoing risk of spreading the virus if we begin having youngsters collect Stuff-A-Van items at Stop & Shop too soon, so, for the present time, this club project will remain on hold. Bob reports that our members continue to donate towards baskets of food for families and send checks to buy super market gift cards for clients of The Open Cupboard. We have raised over $1,500 so far. All contributions are always welcome. Contact Bob for more info. Rebecca seeks other ways to help locals in need and ways for our club to reach out to the community to help people get through the pandemic. Dennis offered to obtain a new list from Vicky Ryback of the current needs of the Open Cupboard and will pass on the info to club members. Al suggested that Paul reach out to the District to obtain masks. It's possible that they might have a reliable, inexpensive source for them. Paul agreed to do so. Dennis heaped praises on Cindy for the great job she has been doing as his assistant with RYLA and announced that she will replace him as our club representative to RYLA. Bravo, Cindy! Thank you, Dennis, for your many years of service as our RYLA rep.! Paul reminds us that it is time for Rob, our incoming President, to fill-out his leadership team. Nominations are now open. If you wish to become a member of Rob's Board of Directors or a Committee Chair, please let him know of your interest this week. Volunteer for service A.S.A.P.
