Today, Rotarian and PJ Middle School Principal Dr. Robert Neidig introduced us to 7th grader Aidan McKenna, his proud mom, and his social studies teacher, Phil Giannusa, and told us why Aidan is deserving of our Most Motivated Student of the Month Award. In addition to holding a very high GPA (upper 90's), Aidan is being honored because of the admirable way he carries himself on a daily basis. Among the comments made about him by his teachers are the following: Mr. Giannusa praised Aidan for being very responsible and an overall pleasure to know and work with. When he returns to class after an absence, Aidan comes prepared to hand in his work without being asked; and if he does not complete an assignment in class, the youngster makes plans to attend extra help, always showing up as scheduled. Aidan is one of the most mature 7th graders, unfailingly polite and dedicated. He is the first to greet and the first to thank his teacher at classes' end. Aidan's Math Teacher remarked on the fact that he is respectful and motivated, putting forth his best effort in all that he does. His English Teacher noted that Aidan is extremely diligent and respectful- a well-rounded individual who has high expectations for himself, who works hard to achieve his goals. His Science Teacher noted that Aidan's assignments are always done to the highest possible standard. When he needs clarification on a subject, he seeks it, which shows his interested in learning. Aidan's lab work has been exceptional all year. What's more, he is kind and seems to get along well with his peers. Dr. Neidig concluded his remarks by stating that Aidan, who demonstrates the qualities of a model student in and outside of the classroom, sets a positive example for all of his peers to follow, and congratulated him for being the way he is.

ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERS: There's still $205 in the pot waiting to be won. YOU could win it. Next opportunity: our June 14th luncheon at Cafe Spiga. REMEMBER: This will be an OPEN CUPBOARD COLLECTION DAY as well as a Club Assembly Day, during which we shall be able to discuss and make plans for future activities and events. Archana thanked Dennis for stepping in to host our last meeting. She also announced that registration for the 2017 RI Convention in Atlanta is now open, with special rates available for early registrants. Our Habitat Build date is Saturday, July 16th and will run from morning to mid-afternoon. Members are invited to take part along with family & friends. The cost will be $100 (for members: $50 paid by the club and $50 by the participant). Place, time, and instructions TBA. You should have received by email a request from Archana asking you to update your personal information and return this to her a.s.a.p. Contact Archana if you have questions. Please note that we will be having an evening meeting on Thursday, 6/23 at Mather Hospital. Dinner will be served (wine included); and Dr.Peter Ottavio will be our featured speaker. ***There will be NO MEETING on the preceding Tuesday, 6/21. Raffle-Selling Time is NOW!!! Our 2016 Past President's Dinner & Raffle Drawing will take place on September 22nd (SAVE THAT DATE!)at Carnival Restaurant in Port Jeff Station. ***Bill gave out the 2016 Raffle Tix to members present at today's and our previous meeting. If you weren't present, expect to receive yours at our next meeting. Michael noted that there was a fine turnout at Saturday's Great Paper Shredding Event on Saturday. Yvette thanked members who made pledges for Larry's participation in the 12th Annual Kenya/USA Bi-Continental 5K Run/Walk on 6/4. Pat gave out our annual scholarship to the graduating Mt.Sinai HS recipient. Meanwhile, Dennis was tasked with giving out 3 scholarships to PJ students. We'll get to meet our scholarship winners at upcoming meetings. Our Most Motivated Student of the Year Award ($300) will be presented on 6/23. Joan Elliott is sending out invitations to meet the visiting team from Australia at a party on 7/10. Sharon pointed out our ad in this year's PJ Village Map (This will be seen by thousands!), and noted that Shinn Estate Vineyards is offering "Vine-tastic" nature and holistic farming workshops this summer for children ages 6-12. Proceeds support Pecinic Community School in Aquebogue. For further info, call 631-804-0367. MJ Fitzgerald,our incoming DG, invites you to her Installation Dinner on June 23rd at 6:30PM at Royalton Mansion in Roslyn Heights. The cost will be $85 p/p.
