Today, Rob hosted a regular meeting at Cafe Spiga, joined by 10 other club members, including Michael Sceiford, who took on the roles of both Speaker and Sergeant. Among Rob's (and Michael's) announcements: Reminder: Our Golf Classic (Putt & Pub Crawl) will take place in the Village on Saturday, April 9, 2022. All members are expected to contribute by getting a foursome to join up or by having a business or individual sponsor our event AND by obtaining gift baskets (from businesses or associates) or items for our Gift Basket Raffles (of $100 value). Donations must be dropped off by March 31st at a weekly meeting or at the home of Dawn & Rob Marder (12 Woodstork Dr., Mt. Sinai). The Marders are eagerly awaiting your baskets/goodies to be made ready for raffling off at the event. A listing of General Membership Meeting Roles and Responsibilities has been sent out to all members. If you have questions/comments, contact Michael B. or Rob. You are asked to vote DAILY for Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck to win the $3,000 prize in the LI Imagine Awards Finalists contest. The opportunity to vote and help the Camp win ends on 3/31 at midnight. (Please remember to do this each day until the end of the campaign.) Mike B. reported for John Perkins that John will be asking Habitat for Humanity to schedule our Club Build Day for sometime during the week of May 10th. Get ready to sign up to be part of the team! Join Pat and a group from Maryhaven on Wednesday, March 30th, between 9AM and noon, to perform some cleanup at the Chandler Estate. Jen invites you to help with a Cleanup at The Train Car (corner Rtes. 112 and 347) on Saturday, March 26th. A Continental breakfast will be provided. Also, Jen is looking at the last weekend in April for our Spring Cleanup at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck. Erika invites you to participate in the Andrew McMorris Memorial 5K Run in Calverton on March 26th. If you can't run, perhaps you'd be interested in making a donation? Check out the info on the BSA website. Our speaker (and cheerleader) for the day, Michael S. reminded us (forcefully) of all that is needed in order for our April 9th to be a whopping success. Basically, we need golfers, sponsorships, and gift baskets- in addition to personnel to help the event run well. We need buyers of raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets. If you haven't done so yet, please reach out to businesses you frequent as well as to friends and relatives, to get them to join us one way or another. Invite friends and neighbors to do foursomes at our event- and to do so in costume! March 25th is the deadline for sponsorships to be included in the official video. (Also, prices for participation go up after that date.) Cindy suggested a list of changes that would enhance our Square Up registration site, and Erika agreed to try to facilitate the changes, (ie., including photos of last (and previous) year's participants instead of stock photos; and providing 8X11 posters that are preferred by businesses willing to help advertise our enterprise.) We should also be reaching out to major corporations for sponsorships, ie., Best Buy. Michael reminded us that in the past, we've doubled the impact we have on this community through this most enjoyable fundraiser- and have raised approximately $20,000 from this one event for club use. Our "lovely Sergeant", Michael S., used trivia questions to stump members and raise many $'s. The first questions dealt with the significance of March 15th, the Ides of March, and Julius Caesar. Other questions centered around St. Patrick's Day (ie., In what US city, do they dye the river green? [answer: Chicago]; What are the odds of finding a 4-leaf clover? [answer: 1 in 10,000] ). Happy Dollars were collected from Jen, who is going to Rockhill, S.C. with 4 children and 1 adult; many members who are happy to see the sun and experience the gorgeous weather or to see the coming of Spring; Cindy, who is looking forward to traveling to Canandaigua in NY's "finger-lakes region" to see her son; while Sharon donated a Sad Dollar because she and her husband will be away (in Aruba) during the week of our Golf Outing. Have you visited the Village Center's 2nd floor yet, where you can enjoy exhibits about the Village Suffrage Movement? While there you can also learn the history of a revered Port Jeff woman, the late Nan Guzzetta, whose incredible costume collection has served the community for many, many years. Deb reminds club members to pick up the now-available, beautiful Golf Outing posters, brochures, and other info to use for publicizing this event far and wide. Michael S. announced that he'll be holding another Golf Committee Meeting TOMORROW, 3/16, at 8 AM via Zoom. Contact him for the meeting link. All are welcome to attend. The Village will be hanging a banner across West & East Broadway at Rte. 25A advertising our Golf Outing. Come and take a photo of the banner and then share it on Face Book and wherever else your family and friends are likely to take notice. BEST WISHES TO JUDI, WHO CONTINUES TO RECOVER AT MATHER! |
