News of the Meeting of August 11th

President Rob began today's meeting  by introducing Treasurer, Nancy Uzo, who, again, clearly and ably delivered her Annual Report as to the financial status of our club.  Nancy referred to the 2 pages sent out to our members just prior to this meeting, and she explained the categories and the amounts listed under each.  Nancy pointed out especially that the usual money spent in direct donations totals less than last year because we haven't yet sent our contribution for the campers at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck (this summer they are camping virtually), nor have we contributed to the Annual Read-To-Me Project.  On the other hand, we did make donations not made in the prior year (ie., the building of the Library Box and the payment for the Chandler Estate Signs).  She explained each of our 6 accounts and their uses: The Debit Card Account to pay for online advertising and special projects (such as for our Golf Fundraiser), managed by Debbie; the Foundation Account, from which we make our donations;  The Fundraising Account, which is used to operate our Annual Raffle and Golf Classic;  The Operating (or day-to-day) Account, which includes monies coming in (ie., dues, meeting fees, Sergeant's collection) and going out (ie., RI and District Dues, Presidents' Dinner, weekly luncheons, annual Clubrunner and P.O.Box Fees, and special purchases (ie., plaques, funeral flowers, etc.); The Welfare Account (aka "Original God Forbid Account") for emergencies; and the Edward Jones Investment CDs ("God Forbid 2").  Nancy explained that the Board transfers some money to the Foundation Account at the beginning of the new year and 5% every year is placed in the Edward Jones Account.  Regarding the Operating Account, we remind our members who haven't yet paid their 2020-21 dues,  please do so as soon as you are able.  Dennis announced that he will be again seeking from the Donations Committee the $1,000 he requested earlier for Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck's needs.  Otherwise, all seems well and good so far regarding our finances.  Thank you, Nancy, for the great job you do!
NEWS & INFORMATION HIGHLIGHTS:
Next week's meeting, Tues., August 18th, will take place via ZOOM beginning at 12:30 PM, and our guest speaker will be DISTRICT GOVERNOR Jax Yonick.  (The Executive Board will meet first with DG Jax at 12:10 PM via ZOOM.)  Please try to attend.  
On Tuesday, August 25th, weather permitting, we will meet in person, outdoors, at Archana's home (2 Applecross Lane, East Setauket, 11733) at 5:30 PM. In the event of inclement weather, we will have a ZOOM meeting instead.
Dennis invites members who are unable to attend 5:30 PM meetings to join him, instead, at Cafe Spiga from 11:30-12:30 PM for outside dining (ordering and paying for lunches on your own); and he will happily accept at that time your donations for The Open Cupboard.
The Executive Board will meet on Friday, Aug. 28th via ZOOM at 8 AM.  All members are invited to attend.  Among topics up for discussion: the Past Presidents' Dinner.
HOW MANY ***RAFFLE TICKETS*** HAVE YOU SOLD?  NEED ANY MORE?  CONTACT JEN!  (SHE IS EAGERLY AWAITING THE RETURN OF YOUR TICKET STUBS AND $. )  REMEMBER: OUR COMMUNITY IS DEPENDING ON THE SUCCESS OF YOUR SALES!  
Bob H. noted that our members have donated since March over $8,500 to The Open Cupboard to help our neighbors in need.
Judi is accepting donations of bottles of wine from our members to fill the Raffle Prize Wine Basket.  If you haven't yet been able to deliver one to her, consider bringing a bottle at our next planned outdoor, in-person meeting on Tuesday, August 25th,  at Archana's home - or, leave it at Judi's home any time.  
A request was made that our members plug the use of the schooner The Ginny Marie, which is still docked in the Harbor.
Al requested ideas on what our club can do to get people to wear masks in the village.  Bob noted that since our club is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, we can go to that office for free masks and thermometers.
Rob D. suggested that LISEC might be in need of additional funds to get through the year.
In light of the recent electricity outage, Rebecca is in the market for a generator for her B&B.
