Today, we welcomed our first Most Motivated Student of the Year Award recipient from Comsewogue High School, graduating senior Charlie Clark. Charlie was accompanied by his parents, his school principal, Joe Coniglione, and school psychologist Cara Spencer. Ms. Spencer presented Charlie to our members, noting proudly that he is also this year's Class Salutatorian. She described Charlie as kind and articulate- a dedicated student with a nearly flawless academic record, who is every teacher's favorite and who stands out as an excellent role model for his peers. This young man has been heavily involved in many Comsewogue High School clubs and activities. His favorites include having served previously as Treasurer and this year as President of Bringing Unity to Youth (B.U.Y.), as well as being an officer in the school's campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk. Charlie is also an active member of his church. He looks forward to traveling to England and Ireland this summer and to beginning engineering studies at SUNY Stony Brook in the fall. Congratulations, Charlie!

ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERS: Ournext meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 26th.This will be an evening meeting at the home of Marianne Deszcz, 5:30- 7 PM (1790 North Country Rd., Wading River). It will be a wine & cheese social/networking gathering. Spouses and friends are invited to join us. (The next meeting after that will be Tues., July 10th, at Cafe Spiga- at our usual luncheon hour.) Today was both an Open Cupboard Collection Day and a day for giving donations to residents of the Woodhaven Nursing Center. Thank you, donors! It's now at $266 !Remember: you have to be present to win it.Our club's 2018 Habitat Build will take place this Friday, June 22nd. Activity Chair John Perkins says that while all the volunteers required have already signed up to participate, he is keeping a "Wait List" for additional volunteers in the event that more places open up. The cost is $50 p/p (with the club also donating $50 p/p). All checks should be made out to Port Jeff Rotary. The Habitat site is nearby: 8 Hampton Rd., Sound Beach. The event will begin at 8:45 AM and will end at 2:30 PM. There'll be a break for lunch at noon, at which time pizza may be ordered. Weather is expected to be in the high 80's on Friday with moderate humidity and sunny skies. Sinai).You are invited to participate in Hope Children's Fund's 14th Annual Kenya/USA 5K Walk/Run on Sunday, July 8th, at which time you'll be competing against Kenyans of all ages who will be running or walking at the same time on the other side of the world. Our 5K will again begin on the Port Jeff Station end of the beautiful Setauket-Port Jefferson Greenway (Rte.112- parking lot entrance at Hallock Avenue traffic light, between Enterprise Car Rental and 7-11 shop). Registration: 9-9:50 AM. Run/Walk Begins at 10 AM. Entry fee: $25 (or free to participants who secure more than $100 in pledges.) Medals for all who complete the course. Today, the last meeting before we begin a new Rotary year, members voted for the 2018-19 club officers. Debbie was pleased to deliver our club scholarship to Comsewogue High School graduating senior Alyssa Osman, while Dennis delivered the scholarships to Port Jeff High's Samantha Acampora and Cezanne Lojeski, and Pat presented the Mt. Sinai High School scholarship to senior John Armstrong. We might get to meet the scholarship recipients in the coming weeks. Bon Voyage, Debbie! She'll attend the annual Rotary International Convention next week in Toronto.We have an offer of pop-up library projects for Scouts, Young Marines, or other youth groups. Pat has offered to check out our harbor bus stop to see if it needs cleaning or repair. John Perkins is looking forward to his upcoming swim across the Messina Straits, which he'll be performing for his stroke awareness and prevention program. Good luck, John!
