Today was a Woodhaven Nursing Home Collection Day. Thank you, generous donors!
After lunch, Nancy, our Treasurer, presented the club's Financial Statement for 2018-19. She handed out sheets with information summarizing how much money we had and have to work with, where the money is, goes, or went, and who benefited or benefits. Firstly, we have 5 separate accounts to and from which our money flowed/flows.
Our Debit Card Account is/was used for online advertising and special projects like the one for purchasing furniture for a Special classroom reading project in May.
The Foundation Account is generally used when our club makes donations to cover the likes of our Back Pack Project and the purchase of Xmas gifts for kids in need, Lions Club food baskets, replacement windows for our Harbor Bus Stop, 501c3 organizations like Pax Christi and LISEC, events like the Infant Jesus Autumn Splendor, the Rotary Dist.#7255 Snowball, and the Gift of Life Dinner, as well as to a RYLA recipient, Polio Plus, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck, student scholarships and awards, and the like. The total of all such donations: $29,336.16!
Our Fundraising Account is the operating account for our Raffle Sales and Winter Golf Classic. Some of the money currently sitting in this account will be transferred to replenish the Foundation Account.
Our Operating Account covers credits from dues, meeting fees, and the Sergeant's collection and debits from RI Dues, District Dues, the Presidents Dinner, weekly luncheons, Most Motivated Students' Awards, and special purchases such as funeral flowers and baby gifts.
The Welfare Account (aka "God Forbid Account.") provides money for donations for sudden needs & disasters, ie., following the hurricane in Puerto Rico & flooding in Texas.
We also have Edward Jones Investment CDs ("God Forbid 2"), four of them, which come due every 3 months and have provided more interest income for our club- 2.45-2.7% - than if the money remained in regular bank accounts. In the future, we will seek bigger-interest account possibilities.
For those of you who would seek future donations to favorite causes from our club, know that applications are now available and should be filed with the Donations Committee.

President Paul reminded us that prospective member Rebecca Kassay's request for active membership status will be fast-tracked, as she expects to embark soon on her filming project, traveling throughout the East Coast to record examples of community service performers-including that of Rotarians. ***HAVE YOU SOLD ALL OF YOUR RAFFLE TICKETS YET? BILL URGES YOU TO REDOUBLE YOUR EFFORTS NOW.*** Dennis is awaiting receipt of a $137 check from a club foursome member for participation in the Annual Greenport/Southhold Rotary Golf Tourney. This year, our 3 members in charge of selecting school scholarship winners and presenting the awards to the deserving recipients at school year's end: Kathy Taveira, who will cover the PJ Schools; Jennifer Dzvonar, who will cover the Comsewogue schools; and Cindy Tischer, who will cover Mt. Sinai High School. Dennis invites you to join him on Saturday, 7/20, in attending the RYLA meeting at the Farmingdale Library, beginning at 9:30 AM. Contact him for more info - and if you'd like him to act as your chauffeur to the event.Saranto is collecting canned/nonperishable food items for LI Cares. Donations of goods will be gratefully accepted. ***Sharon reminds us that our Past Presidents Dinner & the Raffle Draw will take place on September 19th at Savino's Hideaway. You must be a paid-up member to attend. Your membership dues includes attendance at this event.
