Today, Rob presided over our meeting with 17 members present at Cafe Spiga in addition to 6 guests, including Port Jeff Middle School's Most Motivated Student of the Month, Michael Castro, who was accompanied by his proud parents, his special ed teacher, Michelle Landetta, PJMS Principal Jim Nolan, and prospective new member Ryan Dorney. It was a full house! This was also an OPEN CUPBOARD DAY. Thank you, generous donors, and, especially, Dennis, who delivered the collected goods to their destination! Rob reminded us that all club members are invited to attend the monthly Executive Board Meetings. The upcoming one will take place on Friday, November 12th, at 8:00 AM via Zoom. Contact Rob in advance if you wish to join the meeting so that he can send you the Zoom link. Did you receive Mike Burghardt's email regarding this year's holiday gift program? The program, which is coordinated through the Open Cupboard and benefits local children, involves our members purchasing gifts for specific children in need (and being reimbursed for their purchases, if they wish), and then attending the Annual Gift Wrapping Party at Port Jeff High School on December 1st. If you would like to participate, contact Mike at mburghardt@northwell.edu to obtain the names and relevant information about the youngsters who will be receiving your gifts. Rob introduced Ryan Dorney, a NY Life agent who lives locally (but works afar) and might become a prospective club member. Kudos to Kim, who produced a beautiful new November version of Harbor Light!!! This 4- page publication is chock full of all kinds of interesting information. Kim will be emailing a Membership Google Form requesting your updated and preferred contact information (including name, company/organization, email address, birthday, spouse's name, and wedding anniversary- if applicable.) Please respond to the request for the information update so that your listing in the Membership Directory printed on the back page of Harbor Light will be correct. If you do not receive the form, contact Kim at kzettwoch@portjefflibrary.org . Kim also plans to send out a PDF of the new Harbor Light so that non-attending members can also appreciate it. It's this Sunday, November 14th, from 8AM to 1 PM. Let Jen know if you'll be joining the other volunteers, including PJHS Interact students. Breakfast will be furnished by the Camp, while Mather Hospital is providing the BBQ lunch, once the chores (mostly leaf-raking) are done. Pat has suggested that we select another date- perhaps in February- by which time there will certainly be a greater need to pick up the fallen leaves. Pat invites you to join him on Sunday, October 31st, 9AM to noon at the Chandler Estate Park for the installation of the 3 benches that we purchased- and of the fencing that will be put up to prevent erosion along the shoreline. Kim invites members to send her info regarding upcoming events/news (or corrections) to be published in Harbor Light's upcoming issues. Contact her at kzettwoch@portjefflibrary.org . Kim formally introduced our PJ Middle School Most Motivated Student of the Month honoree, Michael Castro, and his entourage. His special ed teacher, Michelle Landetta, told us why Michael stands out and deserves our award. She described him as "a super kid, funny, polite, always helpful, and really smart". Yay, Michael! Last week, the club welcomed and celebrated Comsewogue High's Most Motivated Student of the Month, 9th grader Jake Epstein, who was accompanied by school Principal Mike Mosca, Ass't. Principal Amanda Prinz, and parents. Jen was our intrepid Sergeant today. Her questions dealt with Thanksgiving Trivia. We learned a lot of things we didn't know before about this holiday and how it's been celebrated (ie., Which city has the oldest Thanksgiving Parade? Answer: Philadelphia.) and she collected lots of bucks by stumping many of us. Deb got to sing a portion of the Adam Sandler Turkey Song. We also celebrated Deb's recent birthday by performing our (in)famous rendition of "Happy Birthday" for her. Happy dollars were many- in honor of Michael Castro, Mike Seiford's 1st family weekend holiday, surprise visits by Cindy's relatives, and the like. A good time was had by all. Here's to a healthy, happy week- and make it a productive one! See ya next Tuesday! :) |
