We welcomed a number of guests to our luncheon including honorary member Paul Casciano, outgoing Sup't. of Schools for the PJ School District, and incoming District Sup't. Jessica Schmetten, Most Motivated PJ Middle School Student of the Month, 7th grader Rose Meliker-Hammock, and her proud parents, Amy Hammock and Jaymie Meliker, and Rose's science teacher, Debbie Hagmeyer.
Bob Neidig introduced Rose by citing the reasons why this youngster deserves our award. Among them: her outstanding GPA; her dedication to her studies; and her stature as an all-around role model for her peers. Bob quoted a number of Rose's teachers, who were instrumental in her selection. Her social studies teacher appreciates Rose's tough-minded questions and strong opinions which are beneficial to her class. Through Rose's positive attitude, he feels that she has the ability to uncover information in a respectful manner. Rose is currently in the accelerated math program, where her teacher enjoys her daily display of leadership qualities, her willingness to share her answers and thoughts with classmates, and her helpfulness with struggling peers. Rose's ELA teacher praises this conscientious student whose work reflects her attention to detail, and who offers great insight during class discussions. Mrs. Hagmeyer lauds Rose's naturally inquisitive nature, her consistently high standards of excellence, and her positive leadership in class. In summary, Bob quoted NBA legend Shaquille O'Neil: "Excellence is not a singular act, but a habit. You are what you repeatedly do." Bob pointed out that while Rose is an extremely modest individual, this is the time to celebrate her amazing character and work that she performs on a daily basis. He congratulated Rose on setting such a high personal standard, and expects that she will continue to be successful. Bravo, Rose!

The cost is $125 p/p and will include a sumptuous harvest dinner, live music, raffles, a silent auction, and more. We expect to present another "Can Do Award" at this event. Come visit, learn, and help out!When Dennis reminded us about our Annual Fall Clean-Up at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck on Sunday, 11/17, our intrepid hunters reminded all that the camp event will take place during the Annual Club Hunting Weekend upstate, so, alas, they will be unable to help out. We'll keep our fingers crossed for the safety of Bambi, while several combined school and boy scout groups and neighboring Rotary Club members join with ours to carry out the camp activity under Dennis' leadership.
