News of the Meeting of December 3rd

Today, Hope Children's Fund Board Members Larry Hohler and Ed Hyshiver gave an update on the Jerusha Mwiraria Hope Children's Home in Meru, Kenya.  This was a week of celebration at The Home, as the school year has ended (the new one will begin in January, 2020), and a number of The Home's youngsters have graduated from their primary, secondary, technical, or university studies. Most will begin the next level of education or will be seeking employment - beginning on the path to self-sufficiency.  Ed focused his talk on Kelvin Koome, one of The Home's original 18 youngsters in 2005, now a Physician's Assistant in the local hospital, who Ed has been mentoring for many years.  Meanwhile, Larry proudly introduced another of The Home's original residents and stars, Dr. Doreen Gatwiri, who just completed her MD degree at Jomo Kenyatta University in Nairobi, and who, after a 9 month internship, will begin her practice as an obstetrician/gynecologist.  Both Larry & Ed emphasized the importance to their Kenyan youth of staying true to The Home's motto: "Education is the key"!  They also stressed the need for HCF to work even harder at fundraising to assure continued success for the Home's 89 young residents, who will undoubtedly will want to follow in the footsteps of Kelvin and Doreen.
Also in attendance today: Micah from Suffolk Federal, a potential new club member.
