News of the Meeting of March 20th
Today was both an Open Cupboard Collection Day and a Collection Day For Goods for the Woodhaven Rehab Center.  Thank you, generous donors, and especially to Dennis, who delivered our donations to The Open Cupboard, and Debbie, who brought Woodhaven's goods to the PJ Library for subsequent delivery to Woodhaven's recipients.

Our guest speaker was one of our newest members, Kathy Taveira, who provided us with a bit of her history and background.  Kathy, the mother of 5 children and grandmother of a 3 year old, is the manager of the Port Jefferson branch of BNB Bank. Her husband has his own business (air conditioning- mostly for industrial customers).  Kathy, who has 25 years of banking experience, was especially pleased to be able to open her office in the village.  A community-minded bank, BNB has become a huge supporter of local institutions and nonprofits including Theater Three, Friends of Karen, the Open Cupboard, The Dickens Festival, The Chamber of Commerce, our Winter Golf Outing, and the like.  Kathy explained that BNB (Bridgehampton National Bank) is a small business bank that makes commercial loans to small local businesses, and she is especially proud that her bank donates around $35,000 annually to village entities and activities. Kathy also shared that she comes from a family that loves music, she loves to travel- especially to Barbados, which has a connection to her family background, and she enjoys skiing.  Welcome, Kathy!

ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERS:  ***Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 27th, 2018 and WILL BE AN EVENING MEETING- at Michael's office (903 Main St. in the Village)- from 5:30-7 PM. (This will be primarily a wine & cheese social gathering- an event meant to allow for networking and getting to know one another better. This will also be another opportunity to try to win *the pot*, which now stands at $85! ) Dennis invites you to volunteer for our next Stuff-A-Van Event THIS Saturday, March 24th, at Mt. Sinai's King Kullen, 10 AM thru 1 PM. He's hoping that among our volunteers we'll have Boy Scouts and Interactors helping out. Michael and Paul will attend the P.E.T.S. sessions in Whippany, NJ this weekend.  Other club members are welcome to join them. Contact Michael if you're interested in this officer training seminar, which will serve 4 Rotary Districts.  Will you be celebrating the 43rd Anniversary "Crusade of the Heart"  Gift of Life Gala on Saturday, March 24th, at Westbury Manor?  The Reception begins at 7 PM, with dinner to follow at 8 PM.  The cost at this black tie-preferred event is $250 p/p.  Remember: Gift of Life is responsible for having funded 30,000 life saving surgeries to date.  Michael would like all club members to participate in at least 2 committees. He passed around the list of existing committees, explained what they do, and asked members present to check which ones interest them. He is especially looking for 2 members to represent our club on the District's Gift of Life Committee. Judi spoke to us about the recent travails of  the Rev. Paul Wancura, formerly of Setauket's Caroline Church, a long-time Rotarian, and asked that we all keep him in our prayers.  Have you any books that you'd like to donate to a worthy cause?  JFK Airport has its own Rotary Club, which is still sponsoring the free delivery of a shipment of books to hurricane-torn Puerto Rico.  Contact Michael for more information. RYLA weekend is coming up soon: April 13th-15th.  Please note on your social calendars that our Annual Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck Spruce-Up has been scheduled for Sunday, May 20th. Weiss Nursery is again donating plants for the occasion. Dennis hopes that this day will see 100 volunteers joyfully participating in this event. He noted that prior to this event some preliminary work has to be done and would welcome volunteers to help out. Contact Dennis to offer your assistance. We still have handsome PJ Rotary golf shirts for sale ($10 each) and invite you to purchase one or more.

Bob is still seeking evening meeting places, 1 per month.  Contact him if you can provide a meeting site.

***Please check out our page on Face Book- and Like Us. ***Photos from our Winter Golf Classic are posted there as are photos of the inductions of our newest members.

If you missed today's meeting, kindly inform Yvette about make-ups in a timely fashion.
