Port Jefferson Rotary Club General Meeting

 

President Michael B. called meeting to order. Meeting opened with pledge of allegiance and invocation. To begin the meeting, Michael spoke briefly about the Rotary Fellowships and encourage members to get more involved. The group then reviewed the June Club schedule and Michael announced the monthly evening meeting will now be held on June 20th at Sunrise Senior Living in East Setauket from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Following the schedule review, Michael asked the group for feedback on club's performance for the year (2022-2023). Michael also requested suggestions for how to improve attendance and promote club activities to the local community. One suggestion presented was to promote Rotary activities and events in local church bulletins and to consider adding more signage in the Port Jefferson area. The idea of sponsoring advertisements on Google was also discussed. To increase attendance at Rotary events, the members asked if Rotary would contribute toward members attending paid events. Michael said the Board recently discussed this and will contribute up to 50% toward the members participation but it cannot exceed a certain dollar amount. There was also discussion about not being able to contribute if the event was sponsored by Rotary. In order to expedite the weekly meetings, Cafe Spiga will begin taking orders on the sign-in sheet when members initially show up to the meeting. Dennis reminded the group about the Open Cupboard collection and was grateful for contributions made by the club over the past year. While reflecting on the prior year, members took a moment to acknowledge the great work done by Michael Burghardt as President of the Club. One suggestion to improve participation was to conduct weekday service events. This will be taken into consideration when planning events throughout the year. The next general meeting is scheduled for June 13th.
