President Rob began today's meeting by announcing that the Executive Board elected to not have the Past Presidents' Dinner in September, as had become traditional.  The Board will discuss further options for this event at its next meeting on August 28th (at 8 AM via ZOOM).  The Raffle Drawing will take place, though, on September 17th.

Dennis will handle the 9/2 Annual Southold Golf Tournament (Judi said that the food at that outing will be amazing), while Rob will handle our representation at the Rocky Point golf outing.

Dennis suggested that perhaps in addition to the currently scheduled meetings, we offer members the opportunity to meet socially at Cafe Spiga at 12:15 PM on Tuesdays to lunch outdoors (on days when there are evening meetings)- and these meetings could count as make-ups.  Rotarians in attendance would pay for their lunches out of pocket, and Dennis would collect donations for The Open Cupboard.  Rob and Dennis will discuss and possibly refine this proposal sometime this week.

Bob H. noted that in July members donated $80 in gift cards and a $50 check for The Open Cupboard.  To date, we have donated around $8,600 to help our neighbors in need.

Judi reminds us that she is now accepting donations of bottles of wine from our members to fill the Raffle Prize Wine BasketPlease consider bringing a bottle to our meeting next Tuesday, July 28th, when we will be meeting in-person at President Rob's home (29 White Birch Circle, Miller Place)- or on Tuesday, August 25th, our next in-person meeting at Archana's home (2 Applecross Lane, East Setauket)- or any time in between.

Rob re-introduced Rob Marder as part of our New Member Spotlight.  Rob is a Physical Therapist with a Bachelors Degree from Hofstra and a Masters Degree from Mercy College.  He specializes in working with the geriatric population and with amputees.  Rob has previously established businesses in Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk, and provides home care and also visits to assisted living communities.  He has added speech therapy to his repertoire.  Rob offers classes meeting on video with a wide variety of guest speakers including medical specialists such as ophthalmologists, cardiologists, and pharmacists. Among his more popular classes is one that deals with balance and strengthening exercises, including help with safely getting up from a fall. Such classes are often sought by patients recovering from joint replacement surgery.  He also offers a cardio-pulmonary program 3 days a week.  Usually referred by physicians, his clients are monitored by exercise physiologists, and reports are sent to the doctors.  His practice provides therapy for patients with osteoporosis, stroke victims, and the like.  Having taken a course on screening elderly drivers to see if they are safe behind the wheel, Rob can perform this screening (often on behalf of the person's children), testing the client's reaction time in a variety of driving situations.
Rob, who normally gets client referrals from doctors, geriatricians, home care agencies (as a Medicare Part B provider), and word-of-mouth, takes pride in the fact that he provides one on one attention and supervision to his clients.
