Goal:To encourage a lifetime of reading for newborns and their families that have utilized the St.Charles Hospital Maternity Facility, by presenting each mother with a newborn reading packet.

Before leaving St.Charles' Maternity Dept.,each new mother will be given the gift of her child's 1st book in a package that will also include:material explaining appropriate books at various stages of development,supplied by the Comsewoque Library;a bib bearing the Rotary logo and READ ME;a note of congratulations to the mother with a message from the Port Jefferson Rotary President;a bag to hold all materials,bearing the Rotary logo.

Note: 2400 babies are born at St. Charles each year.

Our project partners: Comsewoque Library;St.Charles Hospital,which will provide  publicity; Best Bargain Books,providing 50% discount on books.

Projected cost for 1200 packages(1/2 year):

Books-$3,000

Bibs-$3,540

Bags-$628

Total:$7,168.

At least 1 application for a  Simple Grant of $750 will be made to the District to help defray costs.
